Answer
i) Taxable Activity:
A taxable activity refers to an activity which is carried on by a person, either wholly or partly in the country, whether or not for a monetary profit, that involves or is intended to involve, in whole or in part, the supply of goods or services to another person for consideration.
Examples:
- The supply of staff.
- The sale or leasing of goods.
ii) Exempt Supply:
Exempt supply refers to the supply of goods and services for which no VAT is charged.
Examples:
- Accommodation at schools and hospitals.
- A supply of medical services and medical supplies.
iii) Relief Supply:
A relief supply is a supply that is effectively zero-rated because of the status of the taxpayer, making it not taxable when sold.
Examples:
- Supplies to the President of the Republic of Ghana.
- Emergency relief items approved by Parliament.
iv) Zero-Rated Supply:
A zero-rated supply refers to the supply of goods and services on which VAT is charged at a rate of 0%.
Examples:
- Export of non-traditional products.
- Freight and insurance directly attributable to the export of goods.
