The ICAN Professional Code of Conduct and Guide for Members requires every member or student of the Institute to always “act professionally” and in “the public interest” in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Discuss the behavioural attributes that will enable an ICAN student to act professionally.

The behavioural attributes required to act professionally include:

  1. Acting with integrity: This involves being honest and trustworthy in all professional dealings.
  2. Being honest and straight-dealing: Maintaining transparency in actions and communications with clients and stakeholders.
  3. Providing objective opinions and advice: Free from bias, influence, or conflicts of interest, using specialist knowledge and skills at an appropriate level for the work.
  4. Confidentiality: Respecting the confidentiality of information provided by clients and avoiding any action that brings the profession into disrepute. It also includes compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
  5. Commitment to continuous professional development: Actively seeking opportunities for learning and improvement to enhance professional competence.
  6. Respecting others: Treating colleagues, clients, and stakeholders with respect and valuing diversity in the workplace.
