Question
According to Vroom’s theory of motivation, state and explain TWO specific factors that determine the strength of an individual’s motivation.
Answer
- Expectancy:
This refers to the belief that one’s effort will lead to the desired performance level. If an individual believes that putting in more effort will directly result in better performance, they will be more motivated. In Vroom’s theory, this is about the perceived likelihood that increased effort will improve the outcome. - Valence:
Valence refers to the value or importance an individual places on the rewards they expect to receive from their performance. If the reward is highly desirable, such as a promotion or a bonus, the individual’s motivation will be stronger. The higher the valence, the more motivated a person will be to achieve the performance level required to obtain the reward.
