Answer
Communication in a named bank like Stanbic Bank Ghana is the process of exchanging information, ideas, and feedback between individuals or groups to achieve organizational goals, such as conveying BoG directives on capital requirements to staff for compliance.
• Three advantages of written communication: (1) Provides a permanent record for audits, e.g., emails on liquidity reports under BoG guidelines; (2) Ensures clarity and precision, reducing misunderstandings in policy documents; (3) Allows time for thoughtful composition, useful for complex regulatory updates. Two demerits of oral communication: (1) No permanent record, leading to disputes in verbal instructions during crises; (2) Prone to misinterpretation due to tone or accents in diverse teams.
• Five sources of barriers and solutions in a bank communication program:
- Semantic barriers (language differences): Solution – Use simple, standardized banking terms and provide multilingual training, as per diverse Ghanaian workforce.
- Physical barriers (noise or distance): Solution – Leverage digital tools like video conferencing, compliant with Cyber Security Directive 2020.
- Psychological barriers (prejudices): Solution – Foster inclusive culture through workshops, aligning with Corporate Governance Directive.
- Organizational barriers (hierarchy): Solution – Implement open-door policies and flat communication channels for faster feedback.
- Cultural barriers (diverse backgrounds): Solution – Cultural sensitivity training, ensuring effective team interactions post-banking cleanup integrations.
