BMIS – L1 – QH2 – Cloud Computing

The finance department at your organisation, Apex Solutions, is considering moving from traditional accounting software to cloud-based accountancy software.

Required:

Briefly explain FOUR advantages from which the finance department could benefit by moving to cloud-based accountancy software

Ease of access: The accounting system can be accessed from any location with an internet connection. This would support collaborative working, flexible working, and home working in the organisation. It would also mean the members of the finance team could access the system when meeting with other staff in different departments across the organisation, allowing a better service to be provided.

Reduced cost. The finance department will only need to pay only for what it needs, therefore helping to keep the cost down. This scalability also means that if any new requirements become necessary, they can be easily added, and the cost would only increase incrementally to add this particular service. In addition, the costs of development of the software will be shared between multiple users, which helps to keep the total cost incurred by the organisation low.

Enhanced security. Service providers have the expertise and resources to dedicate more time and money to improving security and resolving security risks. It is unlikely that the organisation would have sufficient funds and the necessary skill set to invest in security on the same scale.

Improved performance of systems. Expert monitoring of performance by dedicated specialists at the service provider results in better performance.
